Competition Information

The Sheila Malady Short Story Competition is open for entries.

Submission Guidelines

  • The theme is Much Ado About Nothing.
  • Writers of fiction should submit stories of up to 2000 words.
  • All genres of short stories are welcome.

Judge: Carolyn Martinez, Director of Hawkeye Publishing.

Entry fee: $10 for adult writers, $5 for entries from writers 18 years and under.

Prizes: 

  • The winner of the Open Section will receive: $300 cash, wooden quill, 2 x tickets to the Community Play
  • A local prize for a writer in Gippsland will also be offered: Collins Bookstore Voucher, 2 x tickets to the Community Play
  • A prize for a young writer up to the age of 18 years will be awarded: Collins Bookstore Voucher

Deadline: Monday, February 16, 2026, at 11.59 pm AEDT.
