Outline of our Creative Writing Course for Children
Our Creative Writing Course for Children allows your children to start their creative writing journey. With flexible lessons and approachable advice on the essential rule of writing, such as show, don’t tell, characterisation, and symbolism, it provides exercises and activities to improve your child’s ability.
Lesson 1: Creative Writing for Children
This first lesson introduces your child to creative writing. It begins by teaching them to effectively describe scenes through showing, not telling and how to begin editing their work.
Lesson 2: Adapting for Children
This lesson is individually tailored to your child’s favourite story. It asks them to think about why they love it and try rewriting it themselves!
Lesson 3: Writing Characters for Children
The third module teaches your child how to write a hero or protagonist. It introduces them to critical concepts such as character motivation and personification.
Lesson 4: Writing Villains for Children
Building on the previous lesson, this module teaches your child how to write an antagonist. It covers techniques like juxtaposition through fun activities for all levels.
Lesson 5: Writing Settings for Children
This lesson teaches your child to write about a place using their five senses (touch, taste, sight, smell, and sound). They can write about a setting they know or be as imaginative as possible.
Lesson 6: Your own story
The final lesson lets your child write their own story. It also teaches them core techniques for describing and editing.
